Sidmouth ladies continued their fine form last week in the Over-50s, writes Ron Cook.

The Yellow squad recorded another victory, taking four of the six points available in their meeting with St Thomas; Elaine Reed, Jenny Fricker and Val Newnham (19-10) and Anita mason, Jean Green and Josephine Harrison (13-18).

In the Interclub tournament there were Sidmouth wins on both rinks as Torquay Victoria were beaten 41-37.

Here the successful rinks were; Jean Brimson, Paddy Wrench, Jane Painter and Eileen Hewett (21-19) and Pat Pritchard, Phil Nobbs, Val Newnham and Jill Bishop (20-18).

In their first friendly of the week the Ladies were away to Madeira playing triples and had a comfortable 79-47 win with success on three of the four rinks contested.

Mary Smith, Ann Capon and Jill Bishop won 23-11 and Betty Farmer, Jill Lewis and Jane Painter triumphed 18-8 whilst Pat Pritchard. Jean Green and Jenny Fricker claimed a 24-13 victory. The trio of Sue Mison, Sylvia Cook and Eileen Hewett lost by only one shot at 14-15.

Chardstock visited for a friendly and were edged out by just tow shots in a close encounter. The decisive success was that of Jill Bishop (skip), Annie Elwood and Jill Lewis who landed an 18-9 success.

Exonia were on parade at Sidmouth with four mixed triples and the home side secured a 75-58 victory.

Alex Bent, Cliff Hewett and Ivan Robins (29-12), Bill Dunbar, David Fairclough and Zena Johnson (18-13), Des Bridgeman, Derek Mountford and Phil Nobbs (15-16) and Ralph Brooks, Gordon Blood and Chris Rourke (13-17).

Sidmouth men entertained Madeira last Friday in a six triples encounter that the visitors won 124-105.

The victorious home rinks were those of Des Bridgeman, Chas Coates and Peter Mison (21-15) and David Brand, John Doyle and Chris Rourke (21-19).

In the County Trophy there were mixed fortunes for the Sidmouth men.

On the positive side, full points were banked from a four-rink triumph over Seaton; Ken Bridgman, Peter Mison, John Mason and Bob Seldon (35-11), Tony Holland, Bert Hague, Brian Smith and Norman Brimson (27-11), Maurice Watson, John Doyle Chris Rourke and David Hughes (23-19) and Ray Tallent, Jim Wrench, Frank Adlam and Mike Borst (25-13).

However there was defeat to Madeira in the Top Club competition, beaten in three matches whilst two were drawn.

In the Exeter Over-60s the Sidmouth B squad continue to do well scoring another seven points. Better news for the A squad who shared the points with Culm Vale in a 4-4 draw and then played a previously cancelled match against Starcross to record a full eight points.
