Sidmouth booked a Bookers Wholesale Devon Senor Cup quarter-final tie at home to Bradninch thanks to a 59-run win over Exmouth at their Maer ground home on Sunday.

Batting first the Fortfield men powered their way to an imposing 230-4 from their 40 overs. Openers Matt Cooke (20) and Liam Lewis (14), together with number three bat Josh Bess (31) gave the side a solid start. However, it was a 103 run partnership for the fourth wicket between Jake Fawcett (90) and Anthony Griffiths (51) that gave the innings real impetus. Fawcett faced 87 balls for his 90 hitting ten fours and one six. Griffiths faced just 42 deliveries for his half century and he hit four fours and one six.

In contrast hosts Exmouth were never able to get even close to the required run rate after losing Ian Bishop to a second ball duck when Sidmouth skipper Will Murray trapped him leg before wicket. Bob Dawson (27) and Richard Baggs (54) added 71 just over 14 overs, but once they departed there was only a knock of 37 from Marques Clark, one of 17 from Gary Chappell and a cameo of 14 from Finn Marks with no other home batsmen into double figures as the final wicket went down with the reply well short on 171 in the 34th over.

Murray took 3-26 in his 7.5 overs and Fawcett completed a fine all-round shift with 3-32. The other wicket takers were Liam Lewis (2-39) and Miles Dalton (1-35).

Sidmouth will host A Division strugglers Bradninch in the last eight on Sunday, July 12.
