Saturday was one of the biggest days at the Golf Club as it was Professional’s Day, writes John Barnard.
Ben Thorn, Sidmouth Golf Club’s residential professional hosted his annual event, attended by Club member’s and invited guests.
Ben stayed up by the 14th tee all day, offering drinks, snacks and good advice. Unfortunately by the end of the day, he had almost lost his voice but all players were very grateful for the generosity of his prizes and hospitality.
The weather was excellent but the course was playing quite hard coupled with the four holes having two holes, the one with the white flag attracting double points but placed in fiendishly difficult places.
Players had to decide whether to gamble on the double points with the potential of ending up with nothing. It was a fun day, followed by a well attended Race Evening in the Clubhouse which raised more than £220’s for the Captain’s Charity, East Devon Hospiscare.
Winners on the Day were Adrian (Basher) Baldwin and his guest Graham Norman. They scored an excellent 53 points to win by one from Jason Rowbotham and Rob Dance, visitors from East Devon.
Newly married John Jones and George Barber were third with Neil Holland and Mike Knight in fourth.
The Ladies prizes was hotly contested but coming out first was Andrea Milton and Gill Paddon with a good score of 43 points. In second were Ros Eaton and Sheila Skittrall with 41 points followed in third place by ladies’ vice-captain Angie Coles and Marie Clapp.
A two was worth three Pro V 1’s so well worth achieving!
