Sidmouth Quins last game of the season proved to be a game of two halves Newton Abbot winning the first at a canter, forward power paving the way scoring at regular intervals, Sidmouth the second with some expansive rugby.

On five minutes Newton scored their first try wide out, following a line out catch and drive, Sidmouth though responded showing their potential, going through the phases the forwards drove to the line hooker Louis Headon going close with prop Tom Irish finally touching down for an unconverted try.

For the rest of the half Newton dominated scoring four unanswered tries all coming from forward play to make half time scoreline of 31-5, Sidmouth though defended robustly with the backrow, Matt Ewings, Ryan Davies and Lewis Horne all outstanding.

From the start of the second half Sidmouth opened the game up, confidence grew with good ball retention, Man of the Match second row Jason Stephens storming 40 metre run resulted in a five metre line out, second row Mal Rayner showed his dexterity by going over for a try which Rob Willmington converted.

The centre partnerships of Ben Pratt and Dom Hawke worked well when they had good ball creating several openings, Dom Hawke was on hand and determined to finish off a long range break again Rob Willmington adding the extras. Jason Stephens latching on to a loose ball on halfway saw a foot race to the line had the ball not gone dead the final 15 minutes would then have been more interesting. Newton finally managed to get deep into the Sidmouth 22 and a series of penalties saw another forwards try and, on full time, a carbon copy of the previous try was scored to complete the scoring in a 41-19 success for the home side.

Callum Dyckes and Jonny Henthorne both made their first appearance after several years away from the game, hopefully they will appear a bit earlier next season!
