Saturday saw the Radway Inn Medal replayed as it had been originally ‘fogged off’ on the scheduled date in May, writes John Barnard.
Leading the way was Steve Punter who enjoyed a great weekend of golf.
Having won the Friday night stableford, he also won Division 1 of the medal with a round of net 62. Showing much greater consistency than the day before, he had eight pars and two birdies including the last hole.
Having started Friday on a handicap of 11, by Saturday evening he was playing off eight having had an exceptional score reduction on top of the reductions normally applied.
In second place was Paul Hitchcock with a net 65. After a slow front eight, he played the last ten holes in one under gross to earn a one shot reduction to his handicap. In third place was Kevin Legg, continuing his recent good form. He was going really well on the back nine, level gross until he bogied the last.

The scoring in the Second Division wasn’t quite as impressive but leading the way and winning the medal was Phil Spencer who shot 66 as his handicap continues to tumble since his retirement. He played well except he shot two double bogies and one triple bogie to mess up a good card. In second place was Keith Newton with a net 68, just pipping Eric McMath by a shot.
In Division Three, landlord of the Rising Sun, Chris Ward, shot an excellent 62 leading to a three shot reduction in his handicap to 18.
