Sidmouth Raiders Under-12s ended their Exeter and District Youth League campaign with a terrific all-round display that saw them win 6-0 at local rivals West Hill Wasps.

As is always the case when these two sides meet the contest was played in a great spirit and both looked to attack at every opportunity.

Raiders were unlucky not to score with their very first attack, but they did take the lead when Paul Heeney raced clear and calmly slotted the ball home from a tight angle.

Wasps looked to respond, but got little change out of the solid defending from Noah Raffell, Toby Whitfield and Kieran Philips, all of whom not only won good ball, but then made best use of it to set up moves going forward.

It was from one such move that Henry Summerhayes was sent through to apply a calm finish to send Raiders into the break with a 2-0 advantage.

Raiders continued to dominate in the second half, but, to their credit, Wasps never gave up and battled very well.

Robbie Hallett extended the lead with a shot from edge of the box that flew in to the top corner and CJ Abbott’s superb long throw-in created the fourth goal for Ben Slater who headed home.

Raiders continued to control the game and, after Hallett and Will Bond swapped positions, Hallett now in goal, launched a goal kick to Bond on the left and he raced clear before drilling a shot beyond the goalkeeper.

Saving the best for last, the final Raiders goal of an excellent season, Lewis Rowden set off on a powerful run from midfield before drilling the ball home.

The victory saw Raiders finish sixth in the table, a measure of their ongoing improvement. Their strong finish is in stark contrast to the start of the campaign when they lost their first five outings!
