Sidmouth Raiders Under-13s completed their Exeter and District Youth League season with a narrow 5-3 defeat to Westexe Wolves.

Without a game for four weeks the Raiders made a start that showed some clear rustiness! However, thanks to the prompting of coach Tony West, the team began to move up the gears with Ben Scrivens, Ben Latham and Jamie Wyant all becoming prominent as the Westexe goal came under pressure. The deadlock was so nearly broken when a sweet long-range strike from Jack Wilson just flew inches over!

However, not long after, the opening goal arrived and it was one created by an excellent Ben Scrivens pass that released Jack Wilson to drill the ball home.

The Raiders took the lead into the half-time break, but early in the second half Westexe levelled courtesy of the most audacious of strikes from distance. That was the start of a period of Westexe dominance during which time they scored twice more inside five second half minutes to lead 3-1.

Raiders rallied well and it was no more than they deserved when a Matt Laurenti pass found young Scrivens and he made no mistake to make it 3-2.

Back came Westexe, but some solid defending from Thomas West and Louis Stamp, restricted their opportunities, whilst, at the other end, Wilson struck again, this time tucking away a Ben Latham cross, to even things up at 3-3.

With Issac James making a number of fine saves, Westexe were kept at arms length, but they edged ahead from the penalty spot and scored with virtually the last kick of an entertaining game.
