Sidmouth Rugby Club is mourning the death of Oliver Bagwell after a long illness at the age of 81.
He joined the Club in the late 1950s and the Bagwell family have been part of the Sidmouth Rugby Club story for many decades.
He followed his father, who played between the wars, as an influential scrum half. During a long career, Oliver captained the first-team in the 1965-66 season. Also, he was a member of the of the team that won the Havill Plate in 1973.
He will be remembered by those who played with him as team player who demonstrated the traditional spirit of the game, competitive on the field and excellent company afterwards.
The Bagwell name remains prominent in the Club, where he has been followed by his sons and grandchildren.
Rest in Peace Oliver Bagwell.
