Honiton 15,

Sidmouth RFC U9s 40

The U9s' second game of contact rugby was another away game.

A soft, but firm, full-sized pitch, well-drilled opposition, and high standard of refereeing produced a great game of rugby for players and spectators alike.

Both sides fielded two teams. Sidmouth had two equally balanced squads, but Honiton put all their biggest and fastest players in one side.

The first quarter, featuring Honiton's stronger squad, was evenly matched, with good running and tackling on both sides. Score: 0-0.

The second quarter was more one-sided, with Sidmouth starting to take control of the game, with some great tries, 20-0 to Sidmouth.

The third quarter was dominated by Honiton, with Sidmouth pinned in their own half, winning 15-0.

Sidmouth turned the tables on the opposition in the last quarter, and most of the game was played in Honiton's half.

Sidmouth switched on the afterburners and ran in four tries to win 20-0.

Try scorers were Inglis, Emmett, Snowling, Garrick and Turley.

Sidmouth RFC U8s 10, Honiton 9

Sidmouth played Honiton over two games that proved very difficult to report on as the Honiton team were short by three players, so in good spirit Sidmouth U8's made up their numbers!

Both games were enjoyed by all players and some exceptionally high standards of tag were played. A nasty cut above Elliot Emmott's eye saw him retired from the game early.

The majority of the play came from Sidmouth players - either for or against so this week the try scorers are listed: Sebastian Stewart 2, Cole Monaghan 2, Dylan Lascelles 3, Alex Peacock 2, Max Hancock 1, Jordan Fowler 1, Finley Morgan 2, Archie Rowe 2.

Apologies to anyone missed out.

Many thanks to team sponsors TJ Contractors and, of course, Castle Plant Hire.

Following last week's impressive start winning away from home at Okehampton, Sidmouth's newest generation, the under-7s, again showed great skill and determination away to the old enemy, Honiton.

Sidmouth travelled with 17 players so fielded two teams against only seven players from Honiton.

In the first game, excellent running and passing saw Sidmouth quickly gain a 0-2 lead, Honiton scored just before half time. The second half started as the first, with Sidmouth scoring a quick try to lead 1-3. Sidmouth had two further tries 'disallowed' for holding the ball with one hand despite very vocal encouragement from the coach!

In the dying seconds, Honiton ran in a good try to make the final score 2-3 to Sidmouth.

In the second game, a slow start saw Sidmouth go into half time 3-0 down, however the second half saw a spirited fight back to 3-2 and in the final minute Sidmouth had a try disallowed and, with the last move of the game, Honiton ran the length of the pitch to score a try to win the game 4-2. Well done everyone!
