Sidmouth Running Club member Bert Dykema took part in the Zwolle half marathon, writes Monica Read.
This was Bert’s first half marathon and weather conditions were challenging.
Bert said: “The event was held in the centre of the city of Zwolle in the east of The Netherlands.
“There were 45,500 people taking part and the city was closed to traffic, bands were playing along the route and there were thousands of supporters along the route. The event was held at 8.30pm in the evening. It had been a sweltering day and temperatures were still well above comfortable running weather.
“It was my first half marathon and despite the heat I did two hours 25 minutes!”
