Sidmouth’s lady bowlers have been enjoying the glorious weather and taking full advantage with a busy schedule of bowls, writes Mary Turner.

On a trip to Shaldon the ladies faired slightly better, winning on one rink thanks to the efforts of E Reed, C Hamer and P Nobbs, whilst they lost on the other two.

A Sidmouth four were in County Fours action. P Ashton-Pritchard, E Reed, J Painter and J Bishop played in the County Fours competition, whilst J Bishop and S Mison competed in the County Pairs. Both teams won their semi-quarter final ties before being edged out in the quarter finals.

There was action also for Jill Bishop when she took on J Dawson in the Devon/Cornwall Champion of Champions.

After a compelling encounter it was Bishop who prevailed by a single point and she now heads for the Regional Finals which are being played at Sidmouth on July 23.

Both Sidmouth Over-50s, blue and yellow teams entertained teams from Starcross and Seaton.

The yellows won on both rinks against Starcross with A Mason, M Smith and J Harrison winning 14-8 and B Farmer, J Green, and M King winning 28-13.

The blues were equally successful in their meeting with Seaton with P Chew, P Wrench and J Painter securing a 21-15 triumph whilst the team of J Brimson, C Hamer and J Bishop won 19-15. A good day all round for the club!

Ladies from Sidmouth took part in Devon County Section 3 Unbadged Singles, Jill Lewis, Margaret King and Janet Hughes.

Lewis and King played each other on neutral ground with the former winning the match. Good luck, in the next round, Jill.

Last Saturday morning saw the first round of the ladies internal Nina Cup competition.

Through to the next stage are newcomer L Hargraves, B Somerfield, E Reed, M King and J Green.

Sidmouth played a mixed away against Heavitree Exeter. Two new lady players were involved in their first game having stepped in at the last minute, thanks to S Donnell and L Verran-Smith for their support.
