The glorious 12th they call it, and glorious it certainly proved to be for Geof Lory whose remarkable 43 points left him a winner by one from veteran Nigel Sharp on 42 points in the latest Charles Stanley event, writes George Carr.
Alan Billinghurst, playing off a handicap of 12 close behind with 41 points; all these excellent scores belying the demanding conditions of a very firm course - witness the quality golfers, Messrs Bunting, Crab and Pepperell trailing five shots and more off the lead.
Winner Geof Lory, a late starter at the game of golf and natural sportsman will surely prove a name to watch out for in the future; though his handicap will head south at a rate of knots in the not too distant future.
Well played, gentlemen.
