Sidmouth’s Mark and Ken set for Sunday showdown in unbadged pairs semi-finals

The men’s Captain’s Day proved to be a huge success, writes Carol Smith.
The morning session saw the captain’s [Ken Wheeler] teams playing against the vice captain’s [Peter Mison] teams.
After the game all the players, including those playing in the afternoon met for lunch. On these occasions elder members that are no longer playing are also invited, some now into their 90s, but still able to attend and enjoy.
I noticed before they all sat down the bar was extremely busy, so well done to Wendy for coping with them.
They all then sat down to a lovely ploughman’s lunch organised by captain Ken’s wife Sandra, ably assisted by Zena, Mary and Carol, with lots of lovely homemade cakes to follow – yum, yum!
It was a fun, but very competitive day with the captain coming out on top with an overall score of 98-83.
The men’s Captain’s Day morning session winners for the vice captain’s team were the trio of John Mason, Phil Meadows and Peter Bates, who won 27-19, while in the afternoon, the winning team were representing the captain’s team and they were the threesome of Mick Cox, Ken Wheeler and Dave Lever, who won their match 29-8.
In other club news, on Wednesday we welcomed a mixed team from Taunton BC (Vivary Park).
They proved very strong opposition and, after a good competitive game, they won overall by seven shots with the final score being 59-52.
There was success for one home rink with Mary Meadows, Phil Meadows, Peter Mison and skip Chris Hamer winning 22-10.
There are not too many games left to play now as the indoor season is coming to a close. However, there is still one very competitive day to come which sees the annual meeting of the ladies versus the gentlemen.
The men will be out for revenge as we easily beat them at the beginning of the season!
For those that may wish to support Mark and Ken in their semi-final of the Unbadged Pairs, there has been a change of date and it will now take place this coming Sunday (April 8) with a 10am start at Madeira Bowls Club in Exmouth. Should they be successful in the morning then they will play in the final at the same venue starting at 2pm.
