Sidmouth bowlers met to contest the very popular Sunset Umbrella - a chance for members to meet up on a sultry summer’s evening and enjoy a game of bowls and a drink in the bar, writes Susie Bonnell.

However, not for the first time this outdoor season, the meeting was declared a washout when the rain set in and didn’t stop, resulting in the cancellation of the games!

Luckily the strong winds blew the wet front over for Sunday’s match against our visitors - Tiverton Borough.

Although they only travel 45 minutes to get to Sidmouth, it was with great relief that the game went ahead in sunshine for most of the time - with a heavy shower catching us in the last 10 minutes of the match.

Sidmouth managed an overall win by only 10 shots and Tiverton’s captain, Lloyd Daniels, scooped their sweepstake prize by predicting the correct number of shot difference.
