Sidmouth’s three senior sides made it back-to-back all-round success in terms of the new Tolchards Devon Cricket League.

The first team were three wicket winners at Plymouth where they bowled the home side out for 155 in 46 overs. That home score would have been considerable less had it not been for an excellent 82 from opening bat James Burke. The damage was done by the three change bowlers with first change Will Murray claiming 3-21 from 10 overs, second change Aviwe Mgijima bagged 2-27 from eight and third change Charlie Miles returned figures of 3-26 from 10 overs.

The reply was a little troubled at 98-5, but a 33 run partnership for the sixth wicket between Henry Gater (37) and Nick Gingell (8), settled things down and the final wicket lost was that of Gater leaving Robbie Powell (12 not out from 24 balls) and Will Murray (4 not out fro m18) to see the side to a three wicket win with 10 overs and one ball remaining.

Sidmouth 2nds made it back-to-back wins over 1st XI opposition when they were empathic eight wicket winners at home to Clyst Hydon.

The villagers batted first and were bowled out for 110 with Charlie Dibble doing the bulk of the damage with figures of 5-20. Daley Holmes (3-18) and Byron Knowles (2-12) were the other wicket takers before Isaac Thomas (46), Nick Mansfield (29) and 20 extras, saw the Fortfield men to a second C Division East success.

Completing another hat-trick of senior success were the 3rd XI who were in F Division East action at Clyst St George 2nds where they claimed a two wicket win.

The home side won the toss and opted to bat first and were bowled out for 135 in 36.4 overs.

The bulk of the wickets were taken by the spinners, fourth change bowler Tom Chapman, who returned figures of 4-35 from 6.4 overs while third change Jordan Fowler claimed 4-23 from weight overs. Opening seamer Lee Clayden had 2-25 from eight over and the other wicket fell to Wesley Holmes (1-6 from four).

The reply lost wickets along the way, but victory was sealed thanks to a terrific eight wicket partnership between Jordon Fowler and Thomas Burhop.

At 90-8, the odds favoured the home side, but a wonderful knock from young Fowler, who chalked up his highest score in Devon League cricket to date – 49 – and a superb supporting act of 13 from Burhop, saw the thirds to a second successive win and 39 points out of a maximum 40 banked for the campaign to date.
