With spring fast approaching Sidmouth Sailing Club are gearing up for another busy season.

This year will see another activity filled summer, both on and off the water along side a host of other events taking place and being organized at the club itself.

This year will again include the RYA’s popular ‘Push the boat out’ scheme being run at the club on Saturday, May 19.

This offers a fantastic opportunity for anyone wishing to get out on the water and experience the thrill of sailing. Time slots can be pre-booked when you are then taken out on the water by an experienced helm in a sailing dinghy to enjoy what sailing has to offer.

The Lark Sailing Dinghy Association is to hold their four day National event at Sidmouth this year starting on August 18. There’s a warm-up two-day ‘Lark Open’ event being held on June 9 and 10, so Sidmouth will see sailors from all over the country show off their skills in what is a fantastic sport.

Following on the heels of the annual Sidmouth Folk Week, the 2018 Sidmouth Regatta weekend will be held across the final weekend of August. It is hoped that the Red Arrows will make another of their wonderful performances in the skies over Sidmouth on the Friday of the Regatta with the weekend then seeing two full days of various water based fun activities and competitions ashore.

The sailing club has a number of ‘Development Days’ planned this year especially for the junior sailors, giving them the opportunity to hone their sailing skills along with some more relaxed days set aside for family sailing.

Both of theses will run along side our regular racing on Saturday afternoons and Wednesday evenings throughout the summer season.

The first thing on the 2018 agenda at the sailing club takes place on Sunday (March 18) when, from 9am through until 12.30pm with members meeting up to de-winterize the club boats including the safety patrol ribs and have a general ‘tidy up’ of the boat park. This particular event also helps to kick start the all-round enthusiasm for the forthcoming season.

The club is always very happy to welcome new members and if any folk reading this would like to become involved in the sailing club then they can be sure of a warm welcome if they pop along on Sunday (March 18). The day always offers a great

opportunity to meet some of the members and have a friendly chat over a cup of tea or coffee. There’ll be a chance to see what the sailing club has to offer and also take in the spectacular views from the clubhouse while also enjoying a drink. The sailing club has a vibrant social membership.
