Sidmouth Sailing Club gearing up for the new season

The Sidmouth sailing season was due to start on the third Saturday of March, but unfortunately this did not happen as there was no wind to fill the sails, writes Simon White.
However, time was not wasted on this day as sailors took the opportunity to carry out a few pre-sailing chores, most of which involved ‘de-winterising’ the club dinghies in readiness to set sail when the weather does eventually permit.
This was followed up with the main working party getting to grips with boat preparation and general tidying up of the boat park on Sunday.
The galley was open, keeping the workers topped up with tea, coffee and bacon rolls. It is hoped that the weather will be more favourable for us to set sail on the Easter bank holiday weekend. The club is always looking to encourage new members and as such hold specific events in order that those wishing to try the sport can do so.
The club also runs RYA accredited courses for both sailing and powerboat each year, which are held over two weekends. The sailing courses are open to both juniors and adults alike and further details on this and other opportunities can be found on the club’s website, http://www.sidmouthsailing.org.uk
The club sailing takes place on Saturday afternoons and Wednesday evenings, and sailing starts on April 18. Please feel free to pop into the club and see what we have to offer.
