Sidmouth Sailing Club awards evening was well attended with around 100 members and families present. The event MCs were John Keast and Commodore Keith Brodie.
John announced the sailing winners following a very busy and successful season.
The main winners were Bob Vine in the Lasers and James Salter and Hope Brodie in the Scorpions who, between them, appeared to have won half of the total trophies.
It was brilliant to see so many younger members present and successful improvers were Aaron and Archie Bagwell, Angus and Georgina Eaton and Louis and Gabriel Stamp.
Connor Fitch received the Most Improved Junior award and Sapphire Smith the ladies’ helm prize.
Following a break for an excellent supper, Keith Brodie went on to praise the members for the work put in when the club hosted the Laser 2000 national championships in August.
In recognition of their efforts, everyone was treated to a free drink and some members were singled out for special thanks, these included Adele Salter, Christina Brodie, Kath Channing, Kas Millington and Elisha Salter, who spent hours working onshore to ensure competitors were fed and watered.
Mark Waring, Richard Paterson and retiring sailing secretary John Jones were recognised for their efforts in keeping the club running by undertaking thankless tasks in the background.
