The Sidmouth Seniors Open was held in dry weather, but following the previous days rain the course was still wet in places, making for quite difficult conditions and with well thought out pin and tee positions it made for a testing days golf, writes Chris Roberts.

The entry of 114 players with 42 visitors from as far away as the Home Counties, Worcester, Gloucester, Dorset and Wiltshire made an excellent turnout in support of captain Nigel Sharpe’s slick organisation.

One of the visiting clubs Mitchinhampton from Gloucestershire were also celebrating their 125th anniversary along with Sidmouth.

There were plenty of prizes for nearest the pins, winners were; D Geer (fourth); P Spooner (fifth); A Morby (sixth), G Sharp (11th), A Hayson (12th), J Game (14th) and S Johnstone (15th).

Johnstone also landed the longest drive on the eighth hole.
