Sidmouth Seniors away match at Cricket St. Thomas last Monday was played in conditions which made it easy to see why this course used to be called Windwhistle.

Captain of the day, Brian Rice, and his partner Bernie Millward, met two opponents who gave them a lesson in chipping and putting. This saw them being 5 down with 6 holes to play. They staged a minor fightback, winning the 13th and 15th holes but eventually lost the match 3 and 2.

Phil Spencer and David Hall had an even tougher match and lost 5 and 4 on the 14th hole. There was much better news for Sidmouth in the next match, where Colin Paddon and Brian Margison maintained their lead by winning 3 and 2. Steve Nunn and Keith James also got off to a good start and held on to win 2 and 1.

In the penultimate match, John White and Chris Grubb lost the match 4 and 2, whilst Paul Blay and Charles Brown, in the final group, played really well together and won the match 3 and 2 on the 16th. This tied match gives Sidmouth a great advantage for the home leg in August.

Sidmouth Seniors welcomed Honiton Seniors to a very misty course for the latest match at home. Seniors Captain John White with Paul Blay led the team off, but after a tough game lost the first match of the afternoon. Happily, his team came to the rescue winning the remaining matches for a 5-1 triumph.

Saturday saw the first running of the George West Memorial Trophy, played in memory of a member who sadly passed away last year. A betterball pairs competition saw an excellent 45 points win for Mike Temple and Andy Pryke. The Upper Crust Monday Stableford was won by Howard Cushing (41). In the Sidmouth Jewellers Friday Stableford, Adrian Baldwin was victorious on countback with 39 points.

Last year's Club Captain, Jonathan Lee, invited David Cook, a trustee of the Sidmouth Hospice at Home charity to receive a cheque in the amount of £18691.23, which had been collected and donated by the members of Sidmouth Golf Club.
