Having seen their first two matches succumb to the relentless wet weather of late, the Sidmouth seniors finally played a match, writes Hugh Dorliac.

The fixtures, away to Cricket St Thomas, had been in doubt right up until the previous day.

On arrival at the course, the weather wasn’t encouraging with mist and drizzle prevailing, and which remained like that for the duration.

The home players adapted better to their home course conditions than Sidmouth, resulting in a not unsurprising five-and-a-half to a half win for the home team.

The best result of a half point was achieved by acting captain Mike Davis and his partner Charles Brown, who played particularly well, sinking a 20ft putt on the 18th to secure Sidmouth’s best result.

Particularly well done, seeing the greens were very wet and slow, making putts hard to judge.

Despite the result and the weather, overall it was made enjoyable by the opposition’s hospitality, including a very nice meal. Sidmouth seniors’ captain Tony Stoyle hopes the weather improves quickly, so the seniors’ season, including their Open on April 24, can really get underway.
