Sidmouth seniors made the short trip to Honiton where, in windy conditions, they went down to a 4-2 defeat, but the two points they secured were sufficient to give them overall 7-5 success across the two-legged encounter, writes Chris Grubb.
Four of the games were settled with narrow results and a win on the 18th by the final pair, but unfortunately not enough to prevent Honiton winning on the day.
Captain David Bromage and John Brainbridge lost two-and one, but the pairing of Phil Spencer and Glyn Hewitt proved to be an excellent partnership against their low handicap opponents, and they edged a close encounter with a two-and-one success.
Ray Gunston and Nigel Sharp lost two-and-one whilst Ken Rothwell and Brian Skittrall came up against an inform pair from Honiton, and went down to a heavy five –and-four reversal.
Brian Cole and Coulston Herbert lost two-and–one and the final pair of Tony Stoyle and Barry Jones won on the 18th in a very tight match.
