Sidmouth Seniors first match of the season took place at Cricket St Thomas only two weeks after the lifting of restrictions on playing golf.
Nevertheless there was some fine play in good weather on an excellent course, with Cricket St Thomas running out winners by 4 matches to 2.
Sidmouth’s successful pairs included Len Wright and Mike Davis.
Len was in particularly good form with his driving and chipping, whilst Mike’s putting was extremely steady. The Sidmouth pair were 3 up by the turn, eventually sealing the match on the 14th.
Paul Blay and Charles Brown were Sidmouth’s other success coming home 4 & 3 up.  This was a very fine win bearing in mind one of their opponents was playing off 13.
Hugh Dorliac and Steve Nunn went close, just missing out on halving their match on the 18th.  Sadly, the pairs of Chris Grubb and Brian Rice, and Brian Margison and Colin Paddon both went down 5 & 4.
Captain for the Day John White appeared to find the dual responsibilities of captaincy and playing golf too onerous, and left his partner Colin Macklin to battle alone. Despite Colin’s heroic efforts, the game was lost 6 & 4.
Altogether a most enjoyable day, which included the opportunity to socialise afterwards – outside, but at a distance!
