The Sidmouth Golf Club Seniors match versus Wrangaton was held in perfect golfing weather although as we have had little rain the ground was hard, causing some interesting bounces some lucky others not so lucky, writes Chris Grubb.

Unfortunately the Wrangaton captain’s playing partner did not arrive, so, after a couple of frantic phone calls, Brian Le Masurier, from Sidmouth, stepped in to play for the opposition, but despite his able assistance was unable to defeat the Sidmouth pairing of Tony Stoyle and Roger Bawden who won convincingly four-and-three.

Three close matches followed all ending in halves for the Sidmouth pairings of Brian Cole and Vernon Ruffle, John Bainbridge and Colston Herbert and also John White and Colin Mitchell, none of whom were able to make home advantage count.

Glyn Hewitt and Ray Gunston won convincingly five-and-three, but unfortunately the final pairing of Colin (Straw hats’r us) Paddon and Charles Warren lost two-and-one.

The match was played in very good spirit with Sidmouth coming out three-and-a-half to two-and-a-half winners. The return leg will be played at Wrangaton in September.
