Monday also saw the running of the seniors’ annual medal and putting competition in which players are asked play a medal whilst also recording the number of putts they take during the round, writes Hugh Dorliac.

Putting from off the green doesn’t count so a lot of anxious chipping, hoping the ball finishes on the fringe was seen throughout!

Whilst the competition was suspended briefly whilst the fog blew in over the course reducing visibility, the eventual winners of the medal were, in first place Barry Venn with a one under par 65, closely followed by Chris Grubb on 66 and Chris Ashley and Geoff Lory, both with 68.

The putting competition was won by Phil Spencer with an excellent 29 putts. A bottle of scotch was the prize for nearest the pin on the downhill 12th and was won by H Thompson, who was in the first group out. Lucky man!
