Sidmouth seniors put Dartmouth to the sword

Sidmouth seniors were four-and-a-half to one-and-a-half winners when they entertained Dartmouth, writes Chris Grubb.
Despite the threat of a poor weather forecast the match was played in breezy, but pleasant conditions.
Seniors captain David Bromage and Paul Blay had an intriguing game against the Dartmouth captain and playing partner, neither team being more than one up and then having failed to secure a win on the 17th Blay came to the rescue with a 12ft putt on the 18th to halve the match.
John Bainbridge and Les Pratt were comfortable three-and-two winners with Bainbridge scoring a rare birdie on the eighth.
John Townsend and Colin Padden went three down in the first four holes and were unable to catch their opponents running out three-and-one losers.
Hugh Dorliac and Roger Bawden got the team back on track with a strong four-and-three win, this despite Dorliac being distraught at losing a ball on the third, possibly to a greedy magpie (that’s his story anyway!).
The last two pairings of Ken Rothwell, playing with Glyn Hewitt and Ray Gunston partnering Bob Winstone, both secured comfortable four-and-two victories.
