Sidmouth seniors welcomed Minehead seniors to their friendly match at Sidmouth and fortunately the threat of heavy showers did not materialise until after the match, writes Chris Grubb.

Sidmouth captain Nigel Sharp partnered by Hugh Dorliac had a very close game with the Minehead captain Bill Hogg in particularly good form. Two down at the ninth the pair fought back to halve the game.

Second out Graham Vincent and Ken Rothwell, after 20 minutes practice before the match, winning their match six-and-five, proving practice makes perfect! Third out David Bromage and Dieter Ritz won three-and-two although David was not happy with his form. Fourth out, the captains favourites of Ray Gunston and Colin Mitchell won two-and-one, but not without a strong fight from the Minehead pair. Fifth out Bob Johnston and the in- form Paul Blay won four-and-three and the last pair were club press officer Chris Grubb and Barry Jones who won comfortably five-and-four making a good win for Sidmouth over Minehead by five-and-a-half to a half.

The return match will be played at Minehead in July.
