Sidmouth seniors played Dainton Park at home with the course looking in excellent condition with freshly mowed fairways and trimmed rough, writes Chris Roberts.
Captain Nigel Sharpe and Ken Rothwell were four down after five holes, but battled back to be just two down with two to play! The comeback was completed as they halved the 18th.
Next out were Chris Ashley and Brian LeMasurier who secured a two-and-one success.
Mike Anderson and Brian Sanford were out next. The latter playing in his first match, were emphatic six-and-five victors.
Terry Carter and Dieter Ritz had a very tight match before settling for a half.
The fifth pairing out, Ray Gunston and Peter Emery found themselves four down after 12, but then all-square after 16 before they lost by the narrowest of margins on the 18th.
Last out were the pairing of Brian Cole and Colin Mitchell. They went out with the curse of the ‘captain’s favourites’ to win’ hanging over them. The pair were beaten seven-and-six, underlining just goes to show how unpredictable golf can be!
Overall the match was drawn three-all.
