Sidmouth seniors welcomed their counterparts from Teignmouth for their biennial match.
Hoping that the forecast wet weather kept away, Sidmouth captain Hugh Dorliac with partner and Sidmouth club captain, Ray Gunston, led off, playing Teignmouth’s Bob Gateshill and Alan Munson.
Alan, playing off nine, was at a disadvantage straight away - giving shots to the rest and also having never played the course before. This played a part in their falling quickly behind and they eventually lost on the 13th to the Sidmouth pair.
This pattern seemed to repeat itself with pairings of Tony Stoyle and Colin Paddon, John White and Colin Couldwell and John Townsend with Brian Cole all winning by a fairly wide margin. John Billingsley and Colin Mitchell had a much tougher game against Derek Bush and partner Andrew Beattie which finally ended in a draw on the 18th.
The return leg at Teignmouth in October will be a far tougher affair for the Sidmouth team, but they are looking forward to it.
