The Seniors at Sidmouth Golf Club held their Open on Tuesday, April 26 and the golfing Gods shone down on the club.

The event was blessed with glorious sunny weather, and attracted 92 golfers from 18 clubs, all desperately keen to take on the uniquely beautiful Sidmouth challenge.

The Home Competition could not have been tighter! The winners were Trevor Kerridge and Nigel Sharp with 45 points; with Glynn Hewitt and Colston Herbert second on countback also on 45 points. In third place were Mark McGoogan and Gareth Stephens on 44, with Paul Blay and Charles Brown just missing out on countback also with 44 points.

David Asquith and Jim Lauchlan of Cricket St Thomas won the Visitors’ Salver with a fine 43 points. Second were Richard Bays and Andrew Webb of Teign Valley. Fingle Glen took third and fourth prizes through Peter Doyle/Neville Barratt, and Richard Stevens/Brian Ridgeway.

A further highlight was Sidmouth player, Bob Reynolds’ hole-in-one on the 205-yard fifth hole – an experience that every golfer dreams about.

Last Monday's Upper Crust Bakery stableford was won by Steve Crabb on a solid 42 points. Kevin Legg on 40 and Len Wright on 37 took the minor places.

It was then all about 89 year-old Rob Owen, who, once again, demonstrated his class and experience on the course by wnning the senior prize with a solid 38.

The Sidmouth Jewellers Friday stableford saw Kevin Legg upping his game and taking top spot with 37, the score as much a product of the fast greens as of a long week of golf. Simon Warrington took second with 36, ahead on countback from Martyn Cross, also on 36.

On Saturday, it was the Famous Easterbrooks stableford competition. The format comprises three in a team with two scores to count and taking the honours were Colin Macklin, David Burgess and Richard Powell on 81 points. In second were Lewis White, David Pepperell and Howard Cushing with 80, whilst Mitch Davidson, Steve Channing and Basher Baldwin took third with 79.

Another great week of golf at Sidmouth and much more to come this summer.
