Sidmouth and Budleigh played out an entertaining draw when they met last midweek, write Sue and Peter Mison.

The friendly meeting resulted in a 37-37 draw with the successful Sidmouth rink the one comprising of Ken Tolley, Bill Turner, John Chew and skip Ron Cook who won 23-18.

This was the last match to be played before Christmas, but meanwhile, the internal competitions are progressing across the board!

The Sidmouth League plays on Tuesday and Friday evenings and has been running now for over twenty years.

For the last few years it has been generously sponsored by Potburys and most efficiently organised by club secretary Stuart Hamer.

The League attracts teams from Budleigh, Exonia, Honiton, Lyme Regis, Exmouth, Seaton and of course, Sidmouth.

It is a close run competition, but at the halfway stage of the latest campaign Exonia are top with Honiton, Exmouth Beachcombers and Lyme Regis chasing them.

Around Christmas time the eleven teams making up the league play a short League Cup competition and resume the League proper early in the New Year.

As part of the men’s Monday evening nominated triples league the early rounds of the Colin Bryant Cup are played before and after Christmas and they have reached the semi-final stage.

In the last four Magpies will play the Outsiders and the Jays will play the Whisperers.

Sue and Peter would like to wish all bowlers and the followers of their column in the Sidmouth Herald a very merry Christmas and a happy, healthy New Year.
