Tuesday was the selected day for Bob Webber’s Emerton Court team (men’s over 60’s) to play the home leg of their third round match against Elfordleigh.

Trailing 4-1 from first leg, the team were hopeful of a whitewash to get them through to the fourth round for the first time in a few years, Sadly, it didn’t quite happen that way!

First off were Chris Ashleigh and David Cowler who went into an early lead which they defended throughout most of what proved to be a slow round. Gradually, the Elfordleigh got back at them and they were one up stood on the 17th tee. The Sidmouth pair both bogied the hole and Elfordleigh’s par meant an early loss, two-and-one.

As the third pair for Sidmouth were already three down with three to play, the overall match was lost.

The final two pairings of Bob Webber and Chris Timms and Colin Macklin and Bob Welsman both won so the final home leg score was two-and-a-half all, which meant an overall loss of six-and-a-half to three-and-a-halfm, and so a convincing win for Elfordleigh. Good luck to them in the next round and for the Sidmouth lads, there is always next year.
