The bad weather on Sunday didn’t deter nine young Mini Tennis Players (aged between 6-8) from travelling to Sidmouth Tennis Club to compete in the Mini Tennis Flybe Challenge.

Play got under way on time after a heavy shower, and the little children, as enthusiastic as ever, started to play their way into what was going to be the wettest mini tennis event at Sidmouth to date.

Undeterred, as the first few drops of rain started, the children played some fantastic tennis, demonstrating their knowledge of topspin and tactical awareness around the court.

Ben Harrison from Sidmouth, took a step up, and started to challenge the more experience players of a Red 1 rating from some of the bigger centres in Exeter and Torquay, whilst young Jed Ionov-Flint, and Mikee (playing in her first ever tournament) battled away in the Red 3/Red 4 event.

The event was completed but, unfortunately, the oversubscribed Mini Orange and Mini Green Flybe event due to follow, was cancelled as the rain continued.

More Flybe events will follow in the New Year.
