All the Sidmouth Tennis Club teams have now finished playing their winter league matches and, overall, it’s been a good season for the club, writes Kate Truman.

The ladies’ A team were competing in a competitive division in which they won six of their ten matches, losing the other four. That was good enough to see the side into second place in the table and with it promotion to the first division in the next campaign.

The ladies’ B team produced solid performances throughout their B Division campaign to finish mid table with 44 points. They certainly ended their season on a high with a terrific 8-2 win.

The club’s mixed team had an enjoyable season playing friendly matches with other clubs. The team played with an increased strength and consistency to win all but one of their eight matches to finish in top position and gain promotion.

The men’s A team fielded just the one side in the winter league and played in Division One. After a strong start they gradually fell away and ultimately suffered relegation to Division Two next winter as a result of having to forfeit a couple of fixtures. They played 11 different players over the course of the season, including three juniors (Elliot King, Louis Spalding and Ollie Truman), and no doubt the plan will be to win Division Two next season!

All club teams are now looking forward to the summer league with matches starting in mid-April.
