Sidmouth Tennis Club hosted its first Lawn Tennis Association (LTA) Outdoor Matchplay ratings tournament for juniors, writes Kate Truman.
Eight girls and seven boys played a total of 21 singles matches over the course of the day.
For some, it was their first ever ratings tournament so a perfect opportunity to gain experience of competitive singles matchplay in a friendly and beautiful setting, with the added bonus of a ratings improvement at the end of the day for many.
As well as entrants from amongst the Sidmouth junior membership, there were competitors from Exmouth and Sidford, too, who were all keen to come back again.
Club coach, Sue Wiltshire, said: “It was a beautiful day for tennis and we saw lots of great competitive tennis.
“Everyone enjoyed the event and I hope it will become a regular fixture and draw entrants from further afield as it becomes an established part of the tournament calendar.”
The club is also hosting an Outdoor Matchplay ratings tournament for Mini-Red and Mini-Orange players (aged six to nine years) on Sunday November 20.
If your child is interested in entering this event, please enter online at the competitions section on the LTA website (www.lta.org.uk).
