Sidmouth third team travelled to top of the league Budleigh Salterton on a rainy Saturday afternoon.

Skipper Munday won his first toss of the season, put the hosts in and saw George House open the bowling with excellent line and length, consistently beating the edge and causing trouble with his seven over spell going for just 14 runs whilst he also took a brace of wickets.

Clayden bowled with House in the opening spell and although figures do not correspond, bowled respected deliveries and was unfortunate not to take another wicket.

Turner and Munday took over and together bowled 18 overs, with Tuner taking a wicket down to a sharp, low catch from Griffiths. Sargent and Seldon were brought on to dismiss the tale end and did so, both taking two wickets and keeping the run rate down.

Sidmouth dismissed Budleigh for their lowest total of the term so far, 166.

After tea Sidmouth openers Tom Overthrow and Harvey Sargent launched the reply, but were parted in the very first over! Overthrow hit one four, but was then dismissed after clever bowling with movement off the seam. Powell, in at three, faced two balls before being snapped up at point.

Griffiths went for eight before Munday was joined by Sargent, but they were both shot out leaving the first six bats for Sidmouth all back in the pavilion with just 25 on the board!

It was House and Lines who steadied things. House made 41 with three 4’s and one six whilst Lines scored 24 from 41 deliveries.

House was run out, and, not long after, Lines was dismissed and the final wicket fell at 136 consigning Sidmouth to a 30-run defeat.

Tomorrow the third eleven entertain Cornwood.
