SIDMOUTH looks likely to have a pilot gig rowing club as over 40 people turned up to register their interest at an inaugural meeting.

Cornish gig rowing is one of the fastest growing water sports in the South West with over 53 clubs in the region and new clubs as nearby as Lyme Regis and Bridport having been formed within the last two years.

The idea for the Sidmouth club came from Paul Buchanan and Kay Bagwell and a steering committee has now been formed.

A second meeting has been arranged for 7.30pm on Friday, July 24, at the sailing club, to take the formation of the gig club to the next stage. All are welcome, as gig rowing is an all-inclusive family- oriented team sport, with a healthy social side too!

For more information or to get involved please contact either Paul Buchanan on 07802 754126 or Kay Bagwell on 07977 092397.
