THE first opposition of last week were Oatlands Park from Weybridge in Surrey who had to reduce their numbers to five mixed rinks, writes Ron Cook.

Sidmouth ran out the winners on four rinks to one with an overall score of 99-82. For Sidmouth; Pat Pritchard, Dave Lever, Mary Smith and skip Norman Brimson won 21-9.

Ivan Robins, Jane Painter, Ken Hutton and skip Jill Bishop, won 22-20 and there was a 21-14 victory for Ken Day, Jean Mountford, Christine Hamer and skip Brian Smith.

Ray Tallent, Doreen Pound, Jennie Fricker and skip Peter Clements won 20-16 but there was a 15-23 defeat for Jean Brimson, Peter Waller, Bert Hague and skip Eileen Hewett.

Next up was a match at Phear Park with a team made up of four men’s rinks.

Phear Park were the 79-68 overall winners but the rinks were shared.

The best rinks for Sidmouth were Brain Barber, Peter Waller, David Ingyon and skip Ken Hutton (20-17), Trevor Wells, Dennis Moore, Derek Mountford and skip Bill Turner (21-17).

On Monday there was a visit from Plymouth Retired Civil Servants who are always ready for a competitive game and this one proved no exception.

Sidmouth were in charge on the 10th end at 58-43 and continued to play well, resisting a determined visiting side to hold on and seal an eight shot win at 110-102.

The winning rinks for Sidmouth were Brian Barber, David Fairclough, Derek Mountford and skip John Mason (23-14), Bill Dunbar, Harry Carpenter, Derek Limpus and skip Bob Seldon (18-10).

Maurice Watson, Edward Colman, Peter Mison and skip Bill Turner (23-16) and Ken Bridgman, Dennis Moore, Bob Daniels and skip Alan Matthews (21-18).

In the over 60’s League, Sidmouth’s A squad continue to progress well picking up six points in a midweek visit to Marina A and a further six points haul in a Friday visit to Pinces A for a re-arranged game.

With 20 points from the last three games the team is making good progress.

The Sidmouth B squad got back into winning points albeit with only a one rink win and the D squad had a hard fought game at Home against Culm Vale B resulting in a draw and four points to each side.
