Division Two: Hi Q 25, Tip Top Trees 16; NAS 40, CMC Birds 8; JD Tyres 21, Lyme Bay 18; Howden’s Hawks 29, Sidmouth Toucans 39.

Game of the night was the top of the table division two clash between the two unbeaten sides Hi Q and Tip Top Trees, so something had to give!

In the first two quarters it was Hi Q who took a slight advantage with a single goal margin in each so that they led 10-8 at half way.

It was a game of the star Was with Bev Hellyer for Hi Q and Lydia Fanzo for 3Ts both playing very well. Hi Q once again outscored 3Ts in the third quarter to lead 18-13 going into the final session where once again they came out on top in this close encounter to win by 25-16.

Whilst the battle for top spot was taking place the third spot game was on with the battle of the birds – Howden Hawks v Sidmouth Toucans.

This was another close game with Hawks 10-8 up at quarter time, and still two goals to the good at half way at 17-15 thanks in part to some great defending by Tara Andrews.

In the third quarter the Toucans pulled level at 24-24 thanks to their centre Kristy Platt. The Sidmouth side kept up the momentum to end the game winners by 39-29 and change places with Hawks moving up to third – hot on the heels of 3Ts in second place.

The other two games featured the sides in the bottom four and here there was a first win of the season for JD Tyres, leaving defeated Lyme Bay as the only side in either division without a win!

Lyme Bay had started slightly better to lead 4-3, before JD levelled the score at 9-9 before going 17-13 up in the third quarter thanks to good play from Tanya Broom at GA. Although Rachel Edwards at C for Lyme Bay led a mini recovery in the final quarter it was a long awaited win for the Tyres at 21-18, one that saw them lifted from the bottom spot, with CMC Birds dropping in to that position.

CMC Birds had found themselves up against the improving NAS Vehicle Repairs side for whom Emma Griffin at C was in great form. NAS started the stronger and didn’t allow CMC to get in to their stride despite valiant efforts from Julie Logan.

By half way NAS had built a commanding 23-5 lead and they continued to press the Birds winning the contest by 40-8.

?Regular readers of the netball column will recall the tragic death of Zoey Spiller of 3Ts just before the start of the season.

A CD called Zoey’s Song, recorded by her friends, is now available for 2 at Sweets and Treats and the British Legion in Honiton.

The proceeds are being raised for the Devon Air Ambulance. I hope many of you will add this to your list of gift purchases for Christmas.
