Sidmouth Town probably do not want the season to end after they not only won their first games at the 27th time of asking, but promptly won the next game too!

The Vikings supporters were finally able to salute a first South West Peninsula League Eastern Division win of the season with a Friday night success at Crediton United.

A close encounter which clearly both sides did not want to lose saw the deadlock broken five minutes before half-time when Andy Isaacs beat the off-side trap to race clear and net.

The home side levelled with a clinically struck free-kick in the 65thn minute.

However, the Vikings, who have been so close in recent games to bagging that elusive first success, were not to be denied and took just five minutes to restore their lead when Sam Baker squared for Alex Raistrick to tuck the ball away.

The Vikings picked up their second win in five days with a 2-0 Manstone Road success over Axminster Town. Once again the opening goal did not arrive until the closing stages of the first half with Mike Stamp guiding a glancing header home from a free-kick.

Ten minutes into the second half a move started by Sam Banks saw the ball end up with Dave Green and he set up Sam Baker to double the lead.

Boss Paddy Thomas said after the Axminster victory: “Of course I’m pleased with our second win, but I did feel that we could, and should, have played better. That said it’s great for the club that we are ending the season so well. We have been very close to a first win recently and the old adage is quite correct, winning becomes a habit and breeds that all importance confidence and belief.”

The six points in five days have lifted Town to within a point of Crediton United in the battle to avoid finishing bottom of the table.

They are home to Exeter Civil Service tomorrow (3pm) and warp up their season at Manstone Road next Saturday (May 11|) with the visit of Okehampton.

Thomas says: “Civil will put us to the test and we will not be at full strength due to three or four absentees, so players will need to focus on what we ask of them.”

Heading into the penultimate weekend of the season the bottom three reads:
