Sidmouth Town manager Josh Stunell is hoping that the weather breaks sufficiently to allow his team to take on Crediton United in their South West Peninsula League Eastern Division game at Manstone Lane on Saturday.

Stunell says: “The players, me, the club, we all need a game. The monotony of training week on week only for a Saturday match day to be a washout has gone past the stage of being a novelty. Hopefully we’ll play the game against Crediton United and then get some momentum going.”

He continued: “I consider us to be in a much stronger and healthier state than say seven or eight weeks ago so we may just benefit more from this prolonged break than others.

“The Crediton game is one we need to be winning. They are having a season similar to ours and, like us, will no doubt be itching for a game – any game! In the Eastern Division there are those game against the top sides when you go into them looking to get something, anything, out of them and then there are the meetings with teams in and around your own standing in the table that you need to be winning – this is one such game.”

Anthony Griffiths is unavailable, but his absence comes at a good time in as much as Alex Raistrick is available and there’s no place back for Alex Bowring with young Dec Lines keeping his place in the squad.

Stunell says: “It’s the right thing to do, keeping Dec with us. For a couple of weeks he’s trained and I have been telling him he is in and it would not be right to leave him out so he gets his chance.”

After the Crediton game Town face back-to-back away games at St Martins and Galmpton United before their next home game, a March 12 visit from Brixham.

Town Reserves are in Fresha action when they go to Alphington. The Vikings second team have sat out the last four Saturdays in a row and, like the first team, really do need a game.

Town thirds are at Otterton for a Devon Intermediate Cup quarter final tie.
