Sidmouth Town Reserves 1, Colaton Raleigh 0 The Vikings picked up three much-needed points after a well-contested derby game.

With a strong squad for a change, Town began brightly against an equally lively opposition.

Much of the opening exchanges were contested in the middle third of the pitch, but it was the home side who looked to carry the greater threat.

Anthony Griffiths saw a long range effort cannon back off the bar and, when it fell invitingly to Andy Isaacs, everybody expected the net to bulge, but Raleigh glovesman Dec Lines made a wonderful save.

At the other end Mark Pavey was a constant thorn in the side of the Sidmouth defence, but he had precious little support.

The Vikings kept asking all the questions and the opening goal duly arrived via the head of Isaac’s and Town went into the break a goal to the good.

The second half saw more of the same, but with no more goals as Town saw the game out in some style to record a richly deserved, and very welcome, win.

Vikings boss Nick Ogden said: “That was a far result. We deserved it as we played well against a decent side that’s had its nucleus of players together now for several seasons and it showed in their excellent movement. However, we always had a measure of control and I cannot recall our keeper having a save to make! I thought we looked rock solid and worked tirelessly from front to back whilst looking dangerous with the ball, it was a typical derby and a close game that must have been enjoyable for the good size crowd to watch. I thought Kieran Small put in a great shift considering it was his fourth game in six days and it underlines just how fit the young man is.”
