Sidmouth Town Reserves were 4-3 winners when they travelled to Chulmleigh for their latest Fresha League Division Two game.

After a tentative start which saw them muster a couple of off-target efforts from Ferenc Bodor they went ahead on 20 minutes when a Rikki Pitter cross picked out Tim Lister at the far post and he headed home. Two minutes later Bodor seized upon a loose ball to thump it home and double the lead. After 30 minutes two became three as Bodor and Pitter combined prior to the latter netting.

For the second week running the Vikings failed to take the initiative and conceded before and after the break as the hosts upped their game. The momentum was all with Chumleigh, but Sidmouth looked dangerous on the break, and Arnie Onaki’s goal-bound shot was helped home by Bodor, restoring a two-goal cushion.

The home side threw everything they had at Town in an attempt to get back into the game. Dec Lines and Ben Squance cleared off the goal-line in quick succession as the visitors hung-on to collect all the points.

The Vikings two stand-out players were the oldest and youngest members of the squad Anthony Griffiths and Matt Ogley, one displaying unrelenting energy and tenacious tackling whilst mature in possession, the other showing wise timing in the challenge, solid clearances and knowledgeable positioning.

On Saturday Simon Hudson and his Vikings side make the short trip to Tipton St John for a derby meeting.
