Sidmouth Town Reserves maintained their fine form with a 3-1 win at Culm United.

Upon arrival in Mid Devon the Vikings second string found conditions heavy overhead and heavy underfoot, but it did not deter them from serving up a fine all-round performance.

However, they had to come from behind to enjoy success as both sides took a while to come to terms with difficult playing conditions before the hosts took the lead when a header was deflected past a helpless Town gloves man Dec Lines. It might have got worse for the Vikings had Lines not made a smart save with his feet shortly after!

Town gradually took a foothold in the game, but were left aghast when what looked a stone-wall penalty was not given by the match official!

It did not prove to be decisive moment though for not long after leading scorer Rikki Pitter rifled home the equaliser. Five minutes before the break Mark Burdis opened his account for the season to send Town into half-time 2-1 up.

The Vikings were lethargic from the restart and the back four were called into action a number of times, but were always equal to the best the home side could muster.

Once Town regained their composure they settled the game down and took control with some good possession football.

The points were sealed when Man of the Match Pitter took a pass from Darren Thomas and, in the blink of an eye, the ball was nestling in the back of the Culm net!

Having gone 3-1 up Town closed the game out well to complete a very satisfactory afternoon’s work.

Tim Lister provided boundless energy and was a constant threat and Nick Gingell, whilst solid and commanding in defence, showed great vision and intelligence in his distribution going forward. There’s away action again for the side this Saturday with a visit to Newtown Reserves.
