Sidmouth Town entertain Axminster Town tomorrow (Saturday) in a South West Peninsula League Eastern Division game, writes Steve Birley.

Town have yet to win at Manstone Lane this season having shipped four goals twice and scored just once themselves in a sequence of two defeats and a draw.

Boss Paddy Thomas is looking to his team to tighten up at the back and be more clinical with their finishing.

He says: “So far this term we have show excellent commitment and a willingness to both listen and work hard. What’s been missing is individual leadership. We have players in the team with experience at this level now, but what we lack is an out-and-out leader on the pitch. That said I cannot fault the drive and the desire.”

On tomorrow’s opponents, Thomas said: “They (Axminster Town) have made a decent start to the season and they have arguably the finest player at this level in their ranks in the shape of Danny Baily. He’s a class act and one who we will need to keep a tight rein on if we want to win the match. For our part it’s about looking to cut out the bad decision making, the individual mistakes and concentrating on what we are good at.”

There will be changes to the Town line-up as both Ben Cole and Jimmy Lee-Shaw are unavailable, but left back Darren Thomas had a run-out in the midweek training session in a bid to prove his fitness ahead of the derby game.
