With the South West Peninsula (SWP) League into the final third of the campaign, who are the leading side in terms of the three East Devon sides playing in the section this season?

In terms of the Eastern Division table that honour belongs to Axminster Town who currently sit fifth with 33 points from 24 games. Budleigh Salterton are ninth with 27 points from 20 outings and Sidmouth Town sit 15th with 21 points from 18 games.

However, a look at the head-to-head record this term shows that Sidmouth Town have every chance of being the areas ‘top team’ – and that despite them currently being bottom of the ‘mini-league’!

Both Budleigh Salterton and Axminster Town have played three times and chalked up a win and two draws. They have identical records of four goals scored and three goals conceded.

On the other hand, Town have played two of their four games in the ‘mini-league’, losing 2-1 at Budleigh on Boxing Day and going down by the same score when they entertained Axminster Town earlier in the season.

However, to complete the ‘competition’ Town host Budleigh and then go to Axminster Town and a win in both games would see them top of the East Devon head-to-head rankings this season.
