Honiton 1, Sidmouth 1 (after extra time, Sidmouth won 4-1 on penalties) Sidmouth Under-15s booked an East Devon Youth League, President’s Cup final berth after a shoot-out success against Honiton

Sidmouth travelled to Honiton with just a bare eleven and were under the cosh for the opening 20 minutes. However, they gradually got a foothold in the game and took the lead when Joe Miller sent Connor Murphy away he thumped the ball home.

Honiton responded well, but got little change out of the impressive Sidmouth back line of Tom Orchard, Matt Jones, Al Forsyth and skipper Jamie Newbery.

Five minutes from half-time stand-in gloves man Jack Harwood was beaten and the teams went into the break all square.

In the second half Joe Miller took over in goal. Sidmouth controlled large periods of the second half, but could find a finish.

Ben Miller got Murphy away again, but this time the Honiton goalkeeper was equal to the shot. The pressure continued and Joe Buckland put Jack West in, but once again the Honiton gloves man thwarted him.

Extra-time could produce a goal at either end and so the contest moved into the penalty shoot-out.

Newbery put Sidmouth ahead and Honiton netted their first.

Murphy made it 2-1 and Honiton missed their second kick!

An ice-cool Stone made it 3-1 and again Honiton missed, leaving Honiton schoolboy Forsyth to break his school mates hearts by slotting the last penalty to seal a 4-1 shoot-out triumph.
