Sidmouth Town Warriors Under-10s enjoyed double success in meetings with Feniton teams, writes Chris Roberts.
First up, against Feniton Flyers Warriors quickly discovered that it was not going to be a stroll! The contest became one of midfield attrition with goal scoring chances at a premium at either end of the pitch. Half-time arrived with neither defence having been breached. After the break there were scoring opportunities created, particularly by the Warriors, but the Feniton glovesman proved equal to them all whilst his team mates kept the Warriors back line on their toes with some slick counter-attacking.
The deadlock was finally broken when Freddie Eul Barker and Oliver Beech worked an opening down the right flank prior to the ball being fed to Charlie Roberts who managed to squirm the ball under the fully stretched keeper. With the lead netted Warriors closed the game out well and might have had a second, but loud appeals for a penalty were turned down.
In the second game, against Feniton Falcons, Ewan Badcock gave the Warriors a flying start with a quick-fire brace. Two became three thanks to the ‘quick feet’ of Ben Fisher, but battling Falcons hit back to go into the interval trailing 3-1. A half-time chat that reminded the players of the need to keep their shape and discipline got the desired response.
Badcock completed his hat-trick and Ben Fisher also scored a treble before further goals from Gabriel Roberts and Oliver Loosemore completed an excellent morning’s work by the Warriors.
