Sidmouth girls Under-15 rugby team were narrowly beaten 37-30 when they met Exeter Saracens in a cup game.

The Sidmouth girls began well and scored the game’s first goal within five minutes of the start.

The Exeter side responded well and opened their own scoring, but back came Sidmouth with two similar tap-and-go tries to take a 15-5 lead.

However, once again the Saracens response was good and two more tries for them saw the sides into the break all square at 15-all.

Sidmouth began the second half well and quickly regained the lead with a brace of early tries.

However, typical of the end-to-end encounter, Saracens hit back once more and this time with added vigour and three tries and a conversion, gave them the lead for the first time.

There was still time for Sidmouth to score another try, but it was the Exeter side who hung on to close out victory and claim a place in the next round of the competition.

Laika Swain took the Sidmouth try scoring honours with four and Yasmine Whitrow scored a brace.
