The Vallance Cup was the trophy on Saturday and a large entry meant a good prize fund was available, writes John Barnard.
Taking pride of place was Keith Newton with 40 points and with standard scratch set at 35 points, a two shot reduction in his handicap. He was a shot clear of the two players in second and third. Dan Churchill just pipped Paddy Tallon with a better back nine.
Paddy was going well until the turn, but two dropped shots and a no score on the 12th cost him a win. Fortunately, he rallied over the last few holes to still come in with a good score.
Surprisingly, there were only four two’s all day so each one was worth £14.50, almost better than getting in the prizes!
